Today, we begin the trecena of 1 Kej—and this is not just another 13-day cycle.
Kej is the year bearer for our next solar year—the energy that will carry us through the entire year ahead. Kej is the four-legged ones, the deer, the wild sovereignty of the natural world. It is spiritual leadership earned through alignment with nature; the strength and vitality to carry what's yours to carry; and the power to lead not through force but through embodiment.
Kej is the kind of energy that is determined, resourceful, and supportive of enlightenment. This is the nawal of the wilderness itself, drawing on the power of the untamed world to harmonize and replenish us.
This 13-day cycle runs from Wednesday, February 18, through Monday, March 2.
To honor this monumental threshold, I created an altar in my fireplace—a sacred space between worlds. I often think of the fire as where our Soul goes (within and without) to experience the Sacred Pause and hear direct wisdom.
I lay this altar between us as a prayer for the year ahead, for you and for our sweet collective. I’ll share what is present on the altar and why down below, along with lots of photos and suggestions for your own altars.
