Hello sweet souls,

I’m sending this on Tuesday, June 2—the first day of the new trecena—because 1 B’atz does not ask you to prepare. It asks you to begin.

Today, the Mayan ceremonial calendar turns its wheel to a new starting point. Not just a new trecena. Today is 1 B’atz—the first day of the entire 260-day Tzolk’in. The wheel begins again. And it begins with the Monkey, the Weaver, the one who holds the sacred thread of time in both hands and asks: What are you weaving into being?

B’atz days are the most sacred in the Mayan tradition. It is the day the ajq’ijab—the day keepers, the ceremony keepers—are initiated. It is the day weavers have always honored their craft. It is the energy of creation itself: the thread that runs through all things, connecting what was to what is to what is becoming.

B’atz holds the entire calendar in its hands, because without thread, there is no weaving. Without weaving, there is no fabric of time.

1 is the number of pure beginning. The seed before it knows what it will grow into. So 1 B’atz is not a gentle beginning—it is a potent one. This is the moment when the entire loom is set up. When you take the thread and make your first deliberate pass. Everything that will be woven in the next 260 days begins here, in the quality of attention you bring to this threshold.

B’atz asks you to look at what you are creating—not just in the obvious sense, but in the sense of what your life itself is weaving. Your relationships, your work, your daily rituals, the way you move through the world: all of it is a weaving.

B’atz asks: Is this the tapestry you meant to make? And if not—the loom is right here. The thread is in your hands. You can begin again.

This is also the energy of lineage. The thread does not begin with you. It runs backward through your ancestors and forward through everyone whose life you will touch. B’atz holds all of it—past, present, and future woven together into a single, unbroken cord. These 13 days are an invitation to feel that thread in your hands. To honor where it came from. To choose, with care and with devotion, where it goes.

The question B’atz asks your Soul is simple: What are you weaving, and is it true to who you are becoming?

This trecena runs from Tuesday, June 2 through Sunday, June 14.

For members of The Altar:

The altar I made for this trecena is waiting for you below, with photos—lit, alive, and gleaming. And I want to tell you how it came to be, because the making of it is part of the teaching.

There will be no transmission this week—gives us all time to catch up—but I will be back with audio next week on Receptivity and I’ll see you in our three upcoming gatherings this month. Details on the Inside the Altar page.

Sending love and the thread of this new beginning,

Maggie
